I have a confession to make.

I have been in Colorado for 40 years this year and I have never been to Mesa Verde.

It's not that I never wanted to go or had no interest, I never seemed to have the time or the money to go. But that changes this summer.

For those who are unaware, (how can THAT be?) Mesa Verde was the home to cliff dwelling Puebloans until late in the 13th century when they left their homes and migrated south into New Mexico and Arizona.

The Puebloans farmed the mesa top and lived in the structures below, which remain the best preserved in North America. Places like the Balcony House, Cliff Palace, the Long House and more have fascinated visitors for decades and if you love history and finding out more about how life was in our state hundreds of years before anyone tried to tame it.

At Mesa Verde, you also get to choose how you discover this amazing place. You can take your own self-guided tour or tour with a park ranger who has all the inside scoop on all things Mesa Verde.

Honestly, if you're looking for a great destination this summer, make sure you check out Mesa Verde.

I'm going to, finally. And I'll post pics when I do.
