Desert North of Grand Junction Off-Limits During Airshow
A portion of the desert north of Grand Junction will be intermittently closed to the public for the GJ Airshow this weekend.
The Grand Junction Police Department and other local agencies will be using the area to place a very high visibility reference point for the show's aerial performers.
The placement of a semi-trailer in the desert will give pilots a single 'landmark' they can use for proper orientation, distance, and timing for their acrobatics.
Because of the nature of stunts performed, it's important there are no distractions. This will increase the safety of the performers and ensure the performances happen in an area with optimal viewing for spectators.
Other than closures for the Grand Junction Airshow, the desert, including shooting ranges, will be open for public use.
