For those that love scenic mountain hikes, a great way to cool off this summer is the Continental Falls hike in Colorado's Summit County.

Hiking might not seem like the best way to beat the heat, but sometimes you have to generate a little heat in order to find cooler temperatures.

Hiking to Continental Falls outside of Breckenridge is sure to get your heart pumping and blood flowing, but once you reach your destination, it's cool-down city.

The hike is about 2 1/2 miles with an elevation gain of 1000 feet. It's definitely going to be a workout. But, once you reach the falls, you'll be over 11,000 feet above sea level and the water is going to be nice and cool.

It's called a "moderate" hike and dogs on a leash are allowed on this hike.  Along the way, you'll experience some great mountain views as well as some old mining ruins.

To find the trailhead for this hike, you will take CO 9 out of Breckenridge to Spruce Creek Road and then travel just over a mile. Taking I-70 from Grand Junction to Frisco and on through Breckenridge will be about a 3 1/2 hour drive.
