Have You Seen this Cult Classic with Scenes Filmed in Colorado?
It's always a cool feeling to be watching a movie and instantly recognizing a film's location. Movies that feature prominent scenes that were obviously filmed in Colorado include Phantoms, which was filmed in Georgetown, Dumb and Dumber and Stephen King's The Shining (1997), both of which featured the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park.
However, another film that came out decades before the aforementioned classics didn't necessarily hit it big at the box office but has grown to be a cult classic and features scenes that were filmed in various parts of Colorado.
Cult Classic Car Racing Movie Filmed Partially in Colorado
The film was released in 1971 and is called 'Vanishing Point,' an action film featuring high-speed car racing and has since become a favorite for many, including legendary director Steven Spielberg.
As soon as you begin watching the film you may recognize some familiar scenery as the opening scene was filmed in Denver at 2900 Inca Street. However, this particular area just northwest of Coors Field has changed quite a bit and is now home to a car rental business.
Later in the film, the main character, Kowalski, is seen driving into a town that just so happens to be the town of Rifle, Colorado, specifically Railroad Avenue.
In addition, some of the scenes were also filmed in the nearby Western Colorado town of Glenwood Springs.
The plot of the film sees the aforementioned Kowalski racing across the western United States from Denver to San Francisco at astronomical speeds, along with a gripping storyline and fast-paced action.
However, for Coloradans, watching the film has an even more special effect than audiences who don't recognize the filming locations.
