A Colorado State Trooper died in the line of duty on Friday night in Arapahoe County.

William Moden, 37, was struck by a vehicle around 9:40 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 70 near milepost 234, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release.

The 12-year state patrol veteran had been investigating a crash outside of his vehicle. The incident is still being investigated.

After being struck, Moden was transported by helicopter to the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

“Trooper Moden had a big heart and he loved his family and loved being a State Trooper. All he wanted to do was make a difference,” said Colonel Matthew Packard, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol in the release.
