Featured on YouTube and ABC’s 20/20: The Disturbing Colorado Murder of Kristil Krug
If you’re a fan of true crime, you’re probably familiar with the popular YouTube channel Dr Insanity. The channel, which boasts an impressive 3.79 million subscribers, recently published an episode featuring the story of Daniel Krug with the title, “How Police Captured Colorado’s Smartest Killer,” though many would probably disagree with that particular statement.
Who Was Labeled Colorado’s Smartest Killer?
The titular “smartest killer” is a man named Daniel Krug. Krug was married to his wife Kristil for a number of years, and although they remained in the same house with their children, the two had separated by the time of this story.

Unfortunately, Kristil was tormented by who she thought was an ex-boyfriend before being tragically murdered.
What Happened to Colorado’s Kristil Krug?
On December 14, 2023, 44-year-old Kristil Krug’s lifeless body was discovered in her Broomfield, Colorado, garage after Daniel called the non-emergency police line saying that she wasn’t answering his texts or phone calls.
Police were aware of Kristil’s alleged stalker, a man with whom she had a relationship as a teenager who relocated to Utah and had a solid alibi.
Before long, it was discovered that the messages from someone who claimed to be her teenage boyfriend were actually coming from an IP address associated with her husband, Daniel.
Later, it was determined that Daniel, known to be in denial regarding his marriage’s deterioration, stabbed his wife to death.
