What is the Colorado Man Being Accused of?
Earlier this week on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022, a homeless camp near Colorado Springs was set on fire. The camp was located near B Street just outside of the city in El Paso County.
Multiple emergency crews were called to the scene, including the Stratmoor Fire Department just after 2 a.m. that morning and found that someone had attempted to set fire to vehicles at the camp including multiple RVs.
Upon arriving on the scene, witnesses told authorities that they believed Lee to be the one who started the fire. However, a much more serious crime would be committed shortly thereafter before Lee could be located and arrested.
Colorado Man Allegedly Commits Murder
A few hours after the fire around 6:30 a.m. that same day, police were called to a business close to the homeless camp with reports of an injured man. Police found 49-year-old Jose Delgado Diaz with a stab wound in his chest and unfortunately were not able to save him. However, before Diaz passed away, he identified his attacker as the same man who started the homeless camp fire earlier that morning.
Luckily, police were able to track down Lee and arrest him where he is awaiting trial for first-degree murder in the killing of Diaz as well as the homeless camp fire that took place mere hours prior.
