These 10 Children Have Gone Missing in Colorado in 2023
Children across the United States go missing every day. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, many children are never reported as missing. Unfortunately, this means that there is no reliable way to pin down the exact number of missing children there are in the United States.
What Happens When a Child is Reported Missing?
When a child is reported as missing to law enforcement, the child is then entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) through the FBI. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children states that there were 337,195 NCIC entries in 2021.
In 2021, in cases where the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was involved, the recovery rate of children was 89.9 percent. Many of these recovery cases involved endangered runaway children, family abduction, lost children, missing young adults, and non-family abductions.
Missing Children in Colorado
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children states that in 2021, 618 children were reported missing. Of those 618 cases, 562 have been resolved and 56 are currently active.
