Colorado Is Getting Bigger
No, the state's borders aren't expanding but a recently released report says waistbands are.
When I saw the news I was surprised. In the land of hiking, biking, and the great outdoors people are gaining weight and at an alarming rate. According to the State of Obesity report for 2017 Colorado saw a significant increase in obesity. The state's rate increased from just over 22% in 2016 and that's up from 20% in 2015. That's one of the biggest jumps in the US. Colorado is among three other states that saw the highest rate of increase. My former residence of Kansas was the only state to show a decrease.
The good news is that despite the increase, Colorado is still one of the leanest. Adult obesity rates are at 35% or more in 5 states. Still, a two year 20% increase is a shocker for a state where being outdoors is everything.
