One of the most popular genres on TV is true crime, and while it’s fun to see your city featured on a national platform from time to time, it’s far from favorable for your hometown to be given the spotlight on these types of shows.

This was the case for Grand Junction, Colorado, on the most recent episode of a popular program that shows what it’s like to spend the first day in jail after being arrested.

Grand Junction, Colorado Case Featured on True Crime Show

The latest episode of A&E’s ‘Booked: First Day In’ shows a 33-year-old man identified as only “Leaf” being booked for a crime he claims he didn’t commit.

According to Leaf, who was apparently homeless at the time, was persuaded by another area homeless person to check out an abandoned house that, upon entering, they discovered was not in fact abandoned.

Leaf describes discovering a woman struggling to breathe while asleep, and upon awakening her, she called the police on him and reported a burglary in progress.

The man claimed innocence throughout the interview, but was eventually convicted of second-degree burglary and sentenced to eight years in prison.

While the case on its own appears to be pretty cut and dry on the surface, while being interviewed, Leaf mentioned a bizarre urban legend that has been hiding in the shadows of Grand Junction for decades: a group called the Chicken Whackers.

According to Leaf, the Chicken Whackers are drug users who participate in human sacrifice. He claims that he’d always thought the group was a myth until running into them firsthand on the same night on which he was arrested.
