One of the newest examples of public art in Colorado is a large, beautiful mural on the side of a grocery store that carries a powerful message regarding fair trade and ethical farming.
New Colorado Mural Raises Awareness About Free Trade + Ethical Farming
The mural can be found on the side of an independent grocery store at 2630 West 38th Avenue in Denver called Leevers Locavore.
The mural is the brainchild of Colorado artist Chelsea Lewinski and depicts a woman by the name of Sala Matu.
The woman depicted in the mural inherited her father's farm at the age of 29 following his passing and has proven to be successful in her craft and one of the most inspirational women in the industry.
Lewinski's mural was motivated by the artist's desire to raise awareness about fair trade, fair wages for those in the farming industry, especially independent farmers like Matu, and overall ethical farming practices.
The artist chose to represent Matu in her painting to, in her words, "honor a woman who’s crushing it in the farming industry."
The mural serves not only as a means to raise awareness of an important global topic but does so by spreading beauty along with the message.
