Last night, Colorado experienced high winds and a relatively low humidity level: two things that make for high drought conditions and red flag warnings in our state.

According to Denver7, last night's (May 7) drought scare is Colorado's first since 2019. On Thursday afternoon:

76% of Colorado was experiencing at least “abnormally dry” conditions. Sixty-two percent of the state is experiencing moderate drought, while 41% is under severe drought conditions and 11% is experiencing extreme drought conditions.

Abnormally dry conditions will continue into this coming week for Colorado, but red flag warnings are luckily no longer in effect.
