A heinous crime took place on March 25, 2023, in the Denver suburb of Englewood, Colorado in which an elderly man brutally and senselessly ended the lives of his wife and daughter.

The man, 83-year-old Reginald Maclaren, initially called authorities to report the deaths while maintaining his innocence, but later admitted to being responsible for the murders.

Now, over a year later, it has been decided by the court that Maclaren will spend his remaining years behind bars.

What Happened to the Colorado Family in March of 2023?

The story begins with Maclaren being fired from his job and fearing his family would consequently become homeless, purchasing trash cans, an axe, and a saw and hatches a plan to murder them.

Maclaren annihilated his family with the axe and disposed of their remains in the trash cans before calling the police.

What's Going to Happen to the Englewood Colorado Man?

This past June saw Maclaren being found guilty of first-degree murder, tampering with a deceased body, and false reporting.

As of July 10, 2024, Maclaren's fate was decided as he was sentenced to two life sentences without the possibility of parole for the murder charges, two 12-year jail sentences for tampering with his family's deceased remains, and an additional 120-year jail sentence for the charge of false reporting.

His deceased family members include his late wife, Bethany Maclaren who served as a nurse in the Indian Army, and his daughter, Ruth, who suffered from cerebral palsy and was described as a kind soul.
