Colorado Dog Saves Best Friend From Mountain Lion
A Colorado dog saved his best friend, another dog, from what could have been a tragic mountain lion attack.
The dog, a dachshund named Winston, got out of the house he was spending time with a 15-year-old chiweenie named Mijo through an open door, and the situation turned south almost immediately. Mijo the chiweenie was quickly grabbed by a mountain lion and within seconds, Winston the dachshund, weighing only 20 pounds, came after the mountain lion and barked incessantly until the big cat let his friend go and ran away into the wilderness.
Winston's owner, Sarah Moore had this to say about the incident:
This is his best friend, so I’m not surprised that when he was screaming, that he chased after him. He’s got a lot of heart.
Unfortunately, Mijo did not come out of the attack unscathed, as after being rushed to the emergency veterinarian he ended up losing his right eye and was found to have had a seizure because of the incident which may have caused permanent neurological damage.
Following the incident and the vet visit, Moore set up a Go Fund Me page to help pay for the medical bills and as of yesterday, Thursday, November 29th, had raised over $11,500.
Mijo's owner, Lindsay Golden said in an interview with 9 News that Winston is a hero, and called him "a 20-pound dog with the courage of a 200-pound dog."
Thankfully, Mijo is recovering and despite losing an eye and suffering a seizure and neurological damage, the outcome could have been much worse if not for Winston's bravery.
