While it's pretty rare for a human to be killed by a bear, mountain lion, or wolf in Colorado, the Centennial State is actually home to a number of the most dangerous animals on the planet.

How Many of the World's Deadliest Animals are in Colorado?

The 7th-deadliest animal in the world, believe it or not, is the scorpion. While there are numerous species of scorpions, some of which are relatively harmless to humans, the type of scorpion that has a potentially deadly sting can be found in the wild in Colorado.

The 6th-deadliest animal in the world is the tsetse fly, which, luckily, isn't native to Colorado, but the 5th-deadliest animal on Earth, the assassin bug, can be found in the Centennial State. However, only one species of this type of bug, known as the "kissing bug," has ever been found in the state.

Freshwater snails have been named the 4th-deadliest animal in the world, and while they are found in Colorado, it's a parasitic disease carried by the snail that makes it so deadly, and luckily, that particular disease isn't prevalent in the Centennial State.

Coloradans are known to be dog-lovers, despite man's best friend being responsible for an estimated 50,000 to 100,000 deaths per year globally, making them the third-deadliest animal in the world.

Snakes have been named the second-deadliest animal in the world, although Colorado is only home to a few varieties of venomous rattlesnakes.

Finally, the deadliest animal in the world is the mosquito due to the often fatal diseases carried by the insect. However, despite the fact that mosquitoes are prevalent in Colorado, it's pretty unlikely that a bite will do more than cause a bit of itchy discomfort in the Centennial State.
