19th Century Living in Colorado
Located at 498 32 Road in Clifton is one of the oldest homes in Mesa county. The residence was built in 1905 and is a 1½ story wood frame Queen Anne style dwelling with shingle-style detailing.
The Grand Valley, where Clifton is located at, had only opened for settlement in the 1880's after the Ute's were moved to a reservation in Utah.
What's In A Name?
According to the home's nomination form for the National Historic Register, the residence was named for the builder, the Kettle family, plus the first family who lived there, the Jens.
Thus the property is known as the Kettle-Jen house. Another name used to refer to the residence is the Anderegg house.
Physical Attributes
This stunning home has seen many changes over the years but has been well-maintained. The house is asymmetrical, has two porches, and has several incredible gables. The cherry on top? A tower with a bell cast roof.
Originally the house is said to have been located on a 640-acre farm, with a barn and chicken house nearby. In the present day, the house sits on a lot of 0.32 acres. Talk about downsizing right?
