Cinco de Mayo Party Downtown Today
It's already underway and continues all day. It's the 37th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration in downtown Junction, presented by the Latin Anglo Alliance Foundation.
For those of you, like me, that wasn't sure what the LAAF is, it's a Mesa County not for profit organization that promotes Latino culture and strives to form alliances with other organizations and businesses in the community.
This year marks the 37th anniversary of this downtown Grand Junction celebration. It's a full day of activities. Some of the highlights include:
Solar Car Competition 12:30 PM
Watermelon Eating Contest 2:15 PM
Jalapeno Eating Contest 3 PM
Cinco de Mayo Royalty announcement 4:30 PM
Street Dance - live music by Integrantes del Norte 6 - 10 PM
Main Street will be closed between 5th and 7th until the festivities wrap up after 10 tonight. Along with the entertainment and competition, there are a variety of art & crafts, food vendors, and much more! Happy 5th of May...on the 6th!
