Things are getting a bit soggy on the south end of Orchard Mesa. The Gunnison River has surpassed the "full bank" stage, and it shows.

There I was Monday evening, June 10, walking Guard Dog Cupid, when I looked south towards the Gunnison. I've seen this exact same view since 1983. Over the last 36 years, I can only think of a couple of occasions where the river has run over to this degree.

...The flood advisory continues for the Gunnison River...

Gunnison River above Grand Junction affecting Mesa County

.Snow melt runoff will continue with the warm temperatures along
with continued releases from reservoirs. The flows along the
Gunnison will remain high through the week. Minor lowland flooding
is possible along the lower Gunnison River.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety Message...Caution is urged when walking near waterways. Avoid
flooded areas and unstable riverbanks. Stay tuned to developments by
listening to NOAA Weather Radio or your local TV or radio stations.

As you can see, some areas along the bank are accustomed to having water overflow. This is nothing new. It has been a while, though, since I've seen it like this.

Please heed the warning shown above. Granted, our rivers aren't exactly the mighty Mississippi, but they can be dangerous. Use a little extra caution when visiting our rivers under the current conditions.
