Celebrate Colorado Public Lands
Help celebrate Colorado Public Lands Day at this weekend's downtown music festival.
It's a duel event. The Four Peaks Downtown Music Festival and The Grand Junction Off-Road Mountain Bike Event. There are races rolling through some of the area’s more challenging trails along the world-famous Lunch Loops trail system and beyond. Plus some of the areas best local and regional bands on three stages all weekend long. Also part of the festivities is celebrating Colorado Public Lands Day on Saturday, May 19th.
Colorado is the first state in the nation that established a holiday to celebrate public lands. Every year on the third Saturday in May the state honors all public lands available for use and has named it well, Colorado Public Lands Day.
These public lands are a huge source of tourism revenue. The forests, rivers, mountains, grasslands, and parks are a big part of Colorado's economy. Perhaps what's even more valuable than that, is that these public lands are a place for people to connect with nature. Too many kids today spend too much time indoors and disconnected from the beauty around them. Colorado Public Lands Day is a reminder for all of us to get outside and experience some of the most beautiful places on earth. It's a chance to reconnect with these public lands that provide so much for all of us.
