August Burns Red Start Recording New Album: ‘It Has Begun’
August Burns Red have officially started work on a new album, their upcoming eighth full-length studio effort and first since 2017's Phantom Anthem, going by a Tuesday (Sept. 3) update from the band.
Getting the message across in particularly simple fashion, the metalcore mainstays whose frontman recently voiced support for As I Lay Dying, informed their social media followers of the impending release with big, red letters unambiguously reading "LP 8." Take a look at the post toward the bottom of this page.
"It has begun," the band shared on Instagram Tuesday along with a hashtag advancing the coming #NewABR. Tagged in the image were all five August Burns Red members' respective profiles; for vocalist Jake Luhrs, drummer Matt Greiner, guitarists Brent Rambler and JB Brubaker, and bassist Dustin Davidson.
In July, Luhrs said the group's new music would be easier to digest. "Not saying that it’s going to get any more simplified per se," he offered, "but it's going to be easier for the listener to really grasp what's going on."
While August Burns Red's latest full-length appeared nearly two years ago, the outfit have issued other releases in the meantime. This summer saw the premiere of a remixed and remastered Constellations, and the Zelda theme-covering stopgap Phantom Sessions EP came out back in February.
From the Instagram post, it's clear ABR don't consider 2012s' August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin' Hill, A Holiday Album among their core discography. Were it included, the upcoming effort would make the band's ninth. See the group's upcoming tour dates here.
