The hot dry weather many people enjoy over the Independence Day holiday has a down side.

Officials in Aspen decided on Thursday (June 29) the current conditions make it too dangerous to treat residents and visitors to their annual fireworks show.

The Aspen Fire Protection District explains their decision.

The lack of fireworks won't spoil the party, though. The rest of the Fourth of July activities in Aspen will go on as scheduled, so it is still a great place to celebrate Independence Day.

Other communities may follow Aspen's lead as weather is predicted to remain very hot and dry through July 4. Check for cancellations before making plans to travel to see fireworks.
