Owls are pretty secluded creatures and are more often heard than seen, especially one that looks like this.

In fact, call me sheltered but this is the first time I've ever seen or heard of this type of owl.

According to Outhere Colorado,  Colorado Parks and Wildlife were able to rescue a tiny flammulated owlet just outside of Canon City.

The owlet was actually recovered from a road and sent to Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center in Pueblo. This is a preserve and education center that operates with the goal of connecting the local community to nature.

The flammulated owl can fit in the palm of your hand and only weighs about 2 ounces and is roughly the size of a fist when its wings are tucked, making it one of the smallest owl species in the world. However, when this adorable little pint-size owl decides to take flight, it truly spreads its wings and flies and looks much bigger when it does so as its wingspan reaches about 16 inches wide allowing them to move quickly in its pursuit of insects to eat.

Our friends at Colorado Parks and Wildlife stated that these tiny forest-dwelling creatures migrate to Colorado from Mexico.
