When I first heard about this shocking and alarming incident, it just didn't make sense to me. How in the world could an 11-year-old child here in Western Colorado be charged with murder? But according to The Denver Channel, this is not an accident.

An 11-year-old child has been arrested and charged with murdering a woman earlier this month in Montrose County after shooting the victim resulting in her death. The identity of the juvenile is not being released but they will be facing second-degree murder charges in the death of 62-year-old Karmen Keefauver.

The incident took place on Saturday, December 19th at approximately 9:00 a.m. when Montrose County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the 16200 block of Shavano Valley Road after a report came in that a woman had been shot.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene they found Keefauver and immediately transported her to Montrose Memorial Hospital where she died from her injuries. Upon investigating the incident the sheriff's office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation both determined that the 11-year-old was involved in the shooting.

The child is currently being held at Grand Mesa Youth Services. No one is sure at this point about any sort of connection between the suspect and the victim as law enforcement hasn't released many details with there being a child involved in this case.

This is an absolutely heartbreaking story for all families involved. As mentioned we don't have all the details to piece this story together but anytime a family loses a loved one before Christmas is so sad, and to add that an 11-year-old is now facing murder charges. This is so tough for everyone involved, we are sending our condolences, especially to the Keefauver family.
