10 Fun Ways to Celebrate Fourth of July in Western Colorado

Even though there is a ban on the sale and use of fireworks in Grand Junction, the community will still get to enjoy the annual display at Suplizio Field following the GJ Rockies game with Ogden. If you want to see the fireworks from inside the stadium,  you will need to buy a ticket to the game.

By the way, game time is 6:00pm!

The city of Delta is also dealing with fireworks bans, but the city celebration will go on as planned. The annual fireworks display will be held at Confluence Park when the sun goes down and it's always spectacular,  so a drive to Delta is not a bad idea.

It's an annual tradition at the Grand Junction swimming pool - a special admission price on the Fourth of July. This year, the admission is just $2.40 for all ages, and that includes the water slide. It's a fun way to cool down on a hot summer day. Hours are 11am- 7:30pm

At the Colorado National Monument, you can take advantage of three different programs that are free with your paid entrance to the park on July 4.

Canyon Rim Walk.....8:30am-10:30am
Meet at the Saddlehorn Visitor Center and enjoy a one-mile hike along the Canyon Rim Trail.

Monument Rocks.....10am-11am
Meet at the Independence Monument Viewpoint to learn about the formation of Independence Monument and other interesting geologic aspects of Monument Canyon.

Up Close and Personal  2:00pm-3:00pm Meet at the Saddlehorn Visitor Center with a ranger on the back porch to learn about the monument including geology, history, wildlife, and paleontology.

Main Street in downtown Grand Junction is the site of the annual Independence Day Parade starting at 10am. It's a great time to come together as a community to celebrate and enjoy a wonderful patriotic feeling.

There is nothing like a rousing patriotic band concert to get you into the spirit of the occasion, and who better than the United States Air Force Academy Concert Band. They will be performing a free concert at the Amphitheatre at Las Colonias Park at 7:00pm.

Did I mention admission is FREE? And remember this is on July 3 not July 4.

If you love watermelon, you'll enjoy eating free watermelon at Lutheran Church and School of Messiah starting at 4:00pm. The water is free and the watermelon is cold. It's also conveniently located right across the street from Lincoln Park.

There's nothing more American than our American farmers and you can pick up some delicious produce at the Farm and Ranch Market at Cross Orchards Historic Site. It actually happens every Wednesday during the summer from 7:30am-NOON.

Head to Palisade and enjoy the parade at 10:30am and then live music by the St. Mary's Academy Boys Choir, free ice cream, and games.

What better way to enjoy the "spacious skies" and "purple mountain majesties" than a drive over the Grand Mesa Byway. Of course, you can do this anytime, but this a great time to take in the beauty, enjoy some cooler temperatures, and maybe a picnic lunch.
