While you'd think 'X-Men: Apocalypse' would focus the majority of its attention on its titular character, Fox and director have some different ideas. When you've got two of the hottest stars in Hollywood contractually obligated to star in your movie, you make them the center of the action. And, that's what is reportedly happening with the 'X-Men: Apocalypse' script, which is being developed around Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence and the burgeoning romance between Magneto and Mystique.

The news comes from this Hollywood Reporter article on the future of Lawrence's career. While discussing her upcoming David O. Russell project 'Joy,' it's noted that her negotiations on that film were protracted because of her commitment to the 'X-Men' movie. They then claim that to appease their A-listers (and, also, audiences who don't tire of seeing their favorite actors), 'X-Men: Apocalypse' is "being crafted" around Lawrence and Fassbender with "Mystique and Magneto's romance front and center."

One likely angle is the love triangle between Magneto, Mystique and Beast and the question of whether Mystique is an X-Men at heart, or one of the growing Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

It may seem odd at first glance to make Mystique, a relatively minor part in 'X-Men: First Class,' the star of 'X-Men: Apocalypse' but when you have an Oscar-winning actor and the highest-grossing star of 2014 like Jennifer Lawrence in your superhero movie, you don't have her in the background sweeping the floor. Especially when you're likely paying that actress untold millions to star in your movie.

Besides the arrival of the ancient mutant En Sabah Nur aka, Apocalypse and the long-awaited balding of Professor X, we don't know much else about the upcoming 'X-Men' movie. We do know, however, that it will begin filming next spring.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' opens in theaters on May 27th, 2016.
