Winter Park makes a $4 Million snowmaking investment.

The early winter weather has everyone thinking skiing. Winter Park wants to make sure there's plenty of snow on the ground when you get there. The resort stepped up to the tune of $4 million on new pipes, snow guns, and compressors. The snowmaking upgrade is all part of the resort's $28 Million capital improvement project.

Steve Hurlbert, director of public relations and communications, says “I think people are going to really notice a difference when we open up here in about a month.” The area has already seen about eight inches of real snow in the last couple of days. That's over a two-week head start from last year when they started making snow on October 26th.

Hurlbert says the cooler weather will help them get everything ready for Winter Park's scheduled opening day of November 14th. Along with the new snowmaking capabilities, the resort will welcome a cool new 10-person gondola, simply called "The Gondola", that will be ready for action sometime in mid-December.
