A recent study says that tourist are buying up to 90% of the recreational marijuana in some Colorado ski towns. That means visitors to our state are pumping millions of dollars into our economy and I for one think that is pretty cool.

These numbers are larger than what was predicted and the amount might surprise you but that fact is there are a lot of smokers in this country. According to the study Colorado will consume about 130 metric tons of pot this year alone.

To help you wrap your head around that think of it like this. A metric ton is 1 million grams and each joint or bowl is about a half of a gram so there are about 2 million joints in each metric ton. Now my math might be a little rusty but that come out to about 130,000,000 joints this year alone.

That has led to Colorado raising about 35 million dollars in tax money from the sale of weed in the state. That isn’t too shabby and with five months still to go in the year there is no reason to think we won’t break 70 million.

So a with all of the great skiing, hiking, rafting, hunting and camping to offer visitors to our fine state we can also offer some killer weed. Come to Colorado and experience the rocky mountain high in a whole new way, I think there is an ad campaign in there some place.
