Are you deep-frying a turkey this year for Thanksgiving? Don’t burn the freaking house down. Each year turkey fryers cause almost $27 million dollars of damage and 15 deaths. While a deep-fried turkey is very good it can be dangerous if you don’t do it right. I was almost one of them the first time I did it.

When the trend of deep-frying a turkey first took off my brother in-law gave me a cooker for Christmas. The next day we planned a big meal with all the trimmings. My wife and her sister left early that day to hit some after Christmas shopping so John and I did all the cooking.

We had just about everything ready so it was time to cook the bird. I got the pot of oil going and when it was ready I dropped in the turkey. There was a little over flow and a small fire started but we got that under control quick.

Then my three nephews where playing the yard and almost knocked the pot over with a basketball. Luckily I was right there and stopped the disaster before it started.

When the meal was done we waited for a while but the girls didn’t come back home for like seven hours. When they did get home most of the meal was devoured by the five of us. They did get to eat but they had to heat up the leftovers. Be safe this year and have a great Thanksgiving.
