This will be my first full summer in the Grand Vally. According to the experts, it could be one of the hottest ever.

Well, summer certainly started off that way. Yesterday and today Junction afternoon highs were over 100 degrees. Good thing I don't mind the warmth. I'm one of those guys that would rather be too hot than too cold any day.

Being from the midwest I embrace the humidity factor, or should I say, the lack of it here. It makes all the difference in the world. The heat did appear to get a head start. The month of May was the second hottest in the 137 years they've been keep track of that sort of thing. According to the National Weather Service here in Grand Junction,  they're predicting "a dry and hot summer." They went on to say something about a "high pressure basically sitting right over us." That basically means things aren't going to change much in the near future.

If you're headed outside it best to always plan ahead. You know the drill. Pack and drink lots of water. If possible, try to schedule outdoor activities to the early morning and late evening hours. Wear light clothes and use sunscreen. Remember too, always make sure your pets and animals have shade and plenty of water.

It looks like we're in for a long cruel summer. Any of you guys have a pool? I'll bring the beer...and lots of water. Summer rocks!
