Since the shooting the two officers are now a focus of an internal affairs probe as well as a criminal investigation be lead by the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife, states ABC News.

The two police officers could be punished under Samson’s Law, named after a massive bull elk that was killed in Estes Park, Colo. in 1995 -- their fines could be as high as $10,000 for illegally hunting trophy animals.
