Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is searching for the suspect of a recent poaching case near Colorado Springs.

According to a press release from CPW, the incident occurred on Friday (October 23) in Palmer Lake, when an unidentified archer fatally wounded a deer with an arrow before abandoning it.

Wildlife officers later spotted the deer walking near Monument Creek, with the arrow stabbing through both sides of its stomach.

Realizing that the animal would not recover, officers euthanized it onsite.

"This is poaching and it's illegal and we want to catch the person who did this," said Cory Adler, CPW district wildlife manager for the Palmer Lake region, in the release. "This deer was treated unethically and that is something we take very seriously. But we need the public's help catching whoever did this."

If convicted, the suspect could face various misdemeanor charges resulting in fines or jail time.

If you have any information about this incident, contact CPW at (719) 227-5200 or Operation Game Thief at (877) 265-6648.
