A bill in Texas that would legalize Marijuana in the name of 'GOD' has cleared its first hurdle. Republican state Rep. David Simpson is making what he calls the "Christian case" in HB 2165.

Marijuana being used for religious purposes dates back centuries in India, Nepal and ancient Greece and in modern times with the Rastafari. So, this isn't anything new but this is the first time a Christian is making the case.

Simpson is not only a Texas Republican but also a known member of the Tea Party which makes this even more strange. He says that because marijuana comes from God, the government can't outlaw it.

His argument is sound. The whole dominion over the Earth thing but when you conditioner the source it seems just a bit weird. Especially when you look at his parties history versus the drug culture i.e. Nixon and Reagan.

Still Simpson's bill to legalize marijuana in the name of God got out of committee with a 5-2 vote and can now move to a full House debate. That's right a debate that God gave us marijuana so it should be legal will be heard on the House floor in Texas.

Will it go any further than that I don't know, but the fact that Texas is even having this debate means times are a changing for Marijuana in America.
