On Tuesday nights, The Avalon Theater offers up the opportunity to see a great classic movie as it was meant to be seen....on the BIG screen! This week it's the Thanksgiving classic "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles."

Classics, comedies, family films, sci-fi adventures, and cult classics all come home to The Avalon Theater for one night only and the best part is they're free to you with a downtown dinner receipt. It's a great marketing idea and fun way to support downtown businesses.

The film stars Steve Martin as Neal Page, a high-strung marketing executive, who meets Del Griffith, played by John Candy, an eternally optimistic, outgoing, overly talkative, and clumsy shower curtain ring salesman.

Neal is an advertising executive in marketing trying to return to his family for Thanksgiving in Chicago after being on a business trip in New York City, but is delayed by an executive who cannot decide which mock-up will be used for an ad. After their meeting ends without a decision, Neal tries to find a cab and successfully hails one, but it is stolen by another man (Kevin Bacon cameo). Del Griffith interferes by leaving his bag at the edge of the street, causing Neal to fall over while racing the man for the cab. Del then unknowingly snatches a taxi ride that Neal has bought from an attorney. The two meet again at JFK where they board a plane to Chicago. Their plane is diverted to Wichita (my personal connection to the film) due to a blizzard. What should have been a 1-hour and 45-minute New York-to-Chicago flight turns into a three-day chaos filled ordeal.

With the Thanksgiving holiday right around the corner, this is a great chance to get your crew out for a fun evening and support the local downtown economy. Dinner & A Movie showings begin at 7:30. We'll see you there!
