I find myself using every excuse that I can to drive Highway 70 through Grand Junction. True, it's not the shortest route from the radio station to my apartment in Clifton. But, 75 mph sure feels good compared to the pedestrian 35 mph limits on city streets. But, why not totally take the blinders off and create a Colorado autobahn? And, no, I'm not bringing this up just because I grew up watching Speed Racer cartoons.

I have always been told -- normally by older more boring people -- that driving slower means safer. As reported by Motorists.org, the federal government has done some extensive studies on this and found that accidents were LESS frequent in areas with higher speed limits!

Colorado seems to pride itself on being a free-thinking culture ahead of the curve, no driving pun intended. If that's the case, let's unchain the car lovers among us. The scenery should be a reason to slow down a little just to take it all in.
