You Are Asked to Attend Service for WWII Pearl Harbor Survivor
A Colorado resident who survived the attack on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, passed away in his sleep last Saturday at the age of 97. His family asks you to attend his memorial service.
According to KKTV 11, Donald Stratton was surrounded by love to the end, passing away peacefully with his wife of 69 years and his son beside him. Now, his family invites the public to join them for Mr. Stratton's memorial service.
In addition to your attendance, the family asks you to wear Hawaiian shirts that are red, white and blue.
According to KKTV 11, Stratton was only 19 the day the Japanese attacked the U.S. Pacific fleet. Stratton was stationed on the USS Arizona. The ship took a direct hit with a bomb detonating in an ammunition storage area beneath Stratton’s battle station. Stratton reached safety, suffering burns to more than two-thirds of his body.
Later in life, Stratton wrote a New York Times bestseller, "All the Gallant Men."
The service is scheduled for Saturday, February 29 at 10 a.m. Services will be held at the Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel at 4285 N. Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs.
