There's a possibility that 65 percent of restaurants will be closed in six months, due to the continuing pandemic. Xcel Energy is hoping to help them stay open.

At his press conference on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, Governor Polis stated:

The health of our restaurant industry is essential to our state’s recovery into our way of life.

CBS4 Denver reports that the Colorado Restaurant Association predicts that 65 percent of the restaurants that are currently open will be closed in six months unless something can be done, as the coronavirus pandemic does not seem to be going away anytime soon.

While many restaurants have been able to take advantage of the nice spring/summer weather by having seating outside, that will become more difficult and expensive with the winter months approaching.

According to CBS4 Denver, Xcel Energy is ready to join in the effort to keep them open. Excel announced that they'll be donating $500,000 to help restaurants with the expenses of expanding patios and building shelters to seat customers outside.

Xcel also pledged to match donations up to $250,000, which would bring the energy company's efforts to $750,000.
