First Vaccine Lotteries Announced

The state of Colorado is lagging behind much of the country in COVID-19 vaccinations and is trying to get that number up and make the state safer for everyone. Recently, the state announced it would hold five $1 million drawings for everyone who has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The first lottery winner was a woman from Weld County and last week, Stephanie Ward, of Littleton became the second million-dollar lottery winner. At a news conference on Friday, Ward said her family decided the benefits of being vaccinated outweighed the fears and concerns.

While there hasn't been a huge surge in vaccinations in the state since the lottery was announced, Governor Jared Polis said Colorado has seen an 8% increase in COVID-19 vaccinations.

Will the Vaccine Make You Magnetic?

One of the latest crazy theories about the vaccine to circulate is the idea that the vaccine is making people magnetic. To quote the Centers For Disease Control:

....a COVID-19 vaccine will not make you magnetic...All COVID-19 vaccines are free from metals such as iron, nickel, cobalt, lithium, and rare earth alloys, as well as any manufactured products such as microelectronics, electrodes, carbon nanotubes, and nanowire semiconductors.

The CDC went on to say that even if the vaccine was filled with metal, the dose is so small a magnet would not be attracted to the vaccination site on somebody's arm.

I'm Taking My Chances

Some fear the vaccine, calling it experimental, which it truly is not. The science of vaccines has been around for decades. Even if I thought it was experimental, I think I would take my chances on the vaccine rather than take my chances on getting the COVID virus that has killed some 600,000 Americans, and nearly 4 million people around the world.

I know my chances of winning one of the million-dollar drawings from the state of Colorado - but at least there is a chance. And if I don't win, I feel like I have done my part to try and protect myself, my family, and my co-workers.
