What’s the ‘Hoopla’ About at Mesa County Libraries?

Starting in less than two weeks, Mesa County Libraries cardholders will have access to an on-demand streaming service with over 950,000 titles.

If you don't have a Mesa County Library card, now would be a good time to get one. As of February 17, 2021, cardholders will be able to "Hoopla." What exactly is that?

Until this morning, I had never heard of Hoopla, aside from the popular interjection. According to Merriam-Webster, Hoopla can be defined as:

In this case, I'm pretty sure Hoopla refers to Hoopla Digital. This streaming service offers over 950,000 titles in the form of:

• ebooks
• music
• graphic novels
• eAudiobooks
• movies
• TV shows

You can use this service on any compatible device by downloading the Hoopla Digital app. The app is available for iOS, Android, Chromecast, Roku, AppleTV, and Fire TV. According to Hoopla's official site:

Hoopla is a groundbreaking digital media service offered by your local public library that allows you to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV!

What does this mean to you? Well, one interesting thing to note would be more than 80% of the movie and television content found on Hoopla cannot be found on competing streaming services. In addition, content is downloadable and can be accessed later if Wifi isn't available.

Mesa County Library cardholders will be able to download up to eight Hoopla checkouts per calendar month.

To get information about Hoopla and all the awesome content, make your way to the Mesa County Libraries' official webpage. From there, click on the "eResources" tab on the blue bar at the top. From there, click on the "Go to Downloadable/Streaming Media and Lifelong Learning Guide" tab.

I believe this will prove to be an amazing service. For a test run, I did a search for the book "Glamour Ghoul." This book was just released last week. Sure enough, the title is available.

This new feature will be available to you starting February 17, 2021. My suggestion: put it to good use. Again, if you don't have a Mesa County Library card, now would be a good time to sign up.
