Along those same lines, you can ask that same musician what the first song they ever learned on their primary instrument was and they'll more than likely be able to rattle off the song title instantly.

There are just some things that stay with you forever, especially when they're tied to the first time you tried something new. For musicians, songs that introduced them to their instrument are no exception.

You'll also find that many times, the first song a person learns on an instrument such as guitar, bass, or drums, is a rock song. There are classic examples of learning simple yet identifiable riffs like Smoke on the Water or Iron Man to get acquainted with the guitar, but those aren't the only two rock songs that fall into the category of "firsts" for everyone.

Curious, I posted a question on Facebook asking which rock song was the first that residents of Western Colorado learned on an instrument, and here's what they said.

Of course, with any question like this, the classics are usually listed such as the aforementioned Smoke on the Water, as well as Stairway to Heaven, Sunshine of Your Love, and Crazy Train.

However, some more obscure songs were listed as firsts for some Western Colorado residents, as well as some that might not be considered rock at all.
