A Western Colorado group recently shared a fun-and-entertaining variety show featuring area seniors. Check out the Grand Junction Senior Theatre's presentation of their 2020 Virtual Variety Show.

For over 22 years, the Grand Junction Senior Theatre has turned out performances for audiences in the Grand Junction area. In 2020, they've taken one of their shows "virtual." The one-hour and fifteen-minute show features everything from musicians to puppeteers.

Chances are at one time or another you've seen one of the Grand Junction Senior Theatre's stage productions. They're typically fairly large scale productions with a considerable number of actors, crew, and volunteers.

According to their official webpage, the Grand Junction Senior Theatre is a nonprofit group comprised of adults, 50 years or older, who strive to:

  • Dispel the negative images of aging
  • Demonstrate that an active, creative, and healthy lifestyle is not only possible but beneficial
  • Showcase the theatrical talents of members in lively, innovative performances featuring actors, dancers, singers, and musicians

Historically, the organization has presented short sketches, full-length plays, musicals, and melodramas. The theatre group hopes to "train and teach those new to discovering their talents as we rehearse plays."

I believe you'll really enjoy the video. Chances are you'll see someone you know or at least recognize. You'll be impressed by the quality of the performances and productions.

One performance I particularly enjoyed was my buddy Scott Betts' first attempt at a "music video" with his original composition "In the Bleak Mid-Winter." You'll find that performance at 46:58 in the video.

As you can clearly see, a tremendous amount of talent, time, energy, resources, and passion went into the making of the virtual variety show. Some of the behind-the -scenes crew includes:

  • Narrator: Larry Lyon
  • Director: David Kenworthy
  • Producer: Helen Lyon
  • Musical Director: Hope Chynoweth
  • Media Producer: Larry Lyon
  • Video Production: Relyon Entertainment

If the upcoming holidays bring an opportunity to relax and enjoy a little holiday entertainment, please set aside an hour for this entertaining production. While you're at it, give serious thought to getting involved with the Grand Junction Senior Theatre.
