Vail Village Fight Started Over Face Covering Dispute
The Vail Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a male suspect who was involved in a physical altercation in the village earlier this month.
According to the Vail Police Facebook page, officers were patrolling near the intersection of Bridge Street and Gore Creek Drive at 11:30 a.m. on December 23 when they were informed of a fight that had just taken place nearby.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the altercation had occurred as a result of the victim not wearing a face covering in Vail Village. The unidentified offender reportedly struck the victim in the face before fleeing the scene.
Although the town's surveillance system captured an image of the suspect, police are still trying to identify who he is. Anyone with information regarding this suspect is asked to contact Officer John Coates at 970-479-2200 or email jcoates@vailgov.com.
Facial coverings are currently required throughout Vail Village and Lionshead, including in the parking structures. For more information about Town of Vail and Eagle County public health protocols, visit www.vailgov.com/maskon.
