The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Emily Marissa Luciano who was babysitting the infant and two other children in Cedar City, Utah. The child's mother allowed all three children to stay with Luciano and was expecting them home the next morning. Luciano gave the mother excuses as to why there was a delay in the return of the children. On November 6 at 10 p.m. the mother called the police stating that her children have not been returned.

Luciano dropped the two oldest children with an unnamed third party and took the infant with her on a flight to Denver. An Amber Alert was issued in the disappearance of the 4 month old child. Luciano was caught at the Denver International Airport where the child was located safe and unharmed.
