The lucky people of Hershey, Pa. got a huge surprise during Tool’s set on May 25. For the first time in 16 years, Tool performed “Eulogy” off their game-changing Ænima album.

Though “Eulogy” has long been a fan favorite, Tool have left the track out of their live show since 2001. Starting off their 2017 North American tour in Fairfax, Va., “Eulogy” wasn’t part of the set, and with Tool’s gigantic stage production in mind, fans seeing future shows on the tour expected the exact same show, but Tool threw Hershey a curveball, replacing “Vicarious” with “Eulogy.”

Despite Tool’s strict “no recording” policy for fans, a couple attendees captured the anomaly on film and one even got fantastic audio of “Eulogy” from beginning to end. If you’re expecting Tool to switch between “Vicarious” and “Eulogy” every other night on tour, you’d be mistaken. In the two shows following their Hershey performance, “Vicarious” was jammed both nights.

So who knows? Will Tool bust out the Ænima cut again on tour? Or will the Hershey show remain a singularity? Tool will be performing in Rochester, N.Y. tonight (May 30) and Hamilton, Ontario in Canada tomorrow (May 31), so keep an eye out for changes in their set.

In other Tool news, the notoriously tight-lipped Maynard James Keenan gave a speech during the Boston Calling Festival the night before Memorial Day [via Stereogum]:

As artists, we interpret and report, that’s our job. We are merchants of emotion. We have the privilege to do that because of active and former law enforcement and military defending our right to do so.
Those of you who are law enforcement and military, your job is to defend our right to act like whining, entitled snowflake a—holes, myself being one. Snowflakes, your job is to respect them f—king doing that for you. Divided we fall. Don’t believe the hype dumb-dumbs, we’re all in this together.

Keenan enlisted in the Army long before forming Tool, so the musician’s passion for our armed forces can be easily traced. For the remaining dates of Tool’s current North American run, click here.
