Even as Disney’s independent streaming service will launch in fall 2019, the TV side is already taking shape. Not only do we have a sense of what budget the Star Wars TV series and its companions will have (hint: dragon-sized), but we also know The Defenders are safe at Netflix.

No one knew when Disney might confirm details of its streaming service’s live-action Star Wars TV series, but word of Game of Thrones bosses heading to the movies raised questions. Now, Disney bosses profess “a few” Star Wars series may be in the works, along with their own imminent announcements.

With the House of Mouse buying one of the oldest studios in Hollywood, here are the movies and TV shows that could get revivals in the near future.

Boy, that Disney really knows how to break the internet. In addition to news of Rian Johnson planning a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, so too is Disney finally pulling the trigger on a live-action Star Wars TV series for its upcoming streaming service. Plus – is Marvel headed away from Netflix?

Unlike the previous Obi-Wan Kenobi  —  sorry, Alec Guinness  —  Ewan McGregor has long been excited about the prospect of returning for more Star Wars movies, telling Empire Magazine last October that he was the “right age” to make two more movies as the beloved character. While fans were sometimes unimpressed by the prequels, McGregor’s winning performance as the young Jedi was one of the highlights of the film, leading fans to clamor for a standalone Kenobi movie while McGregor was still the right age.

Acquiring Lucasfilm and Marvel were just two minor steps in Disney’s grand plan to eventually own everything you love and control your life as Entertainment Overlord Supreme of the Planet Earth. But to be fair, they are a benevolent god. A caring god. A god that wants to make its riches available to you, should you want to indulge yourself. So prepare thyself: TV channels based entire on Marvel and Star Wars content may be coming.

For months it’s been rumored, now it’s confirmed: Rian Johnson, the writer and director of Brick and Looper is officially the writer and director of Star Wars: Episode VIII. Disney CEO Robert Iger also revealed to company shareholders today that Episode VIII has its official release date: May 26, 2017 — 40 years and a single day after the release of the very first Star Wars back in 1977.
