Following today’s report on Gore Verbinski’s exit from Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie, Fox is making some big moves — the most major of which is, unsurprisingly, with Deadpool 2. The studio has moved the sequel to 2016’s R-rated anti-superhero hit up to May, almost a whole month earlier than its June 1 release date.
When you gather ’round the table to shove turkey into your face with friends and loved ones, what will you give thanks for? Your career, your relationships, just being alive, or maybe the fact that a wild R-rated superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds as a mouthy mercenary became such a massive hit that we’re actually getting a sequel. (Don’t say that. Your mom will be pissed.) In keeping with the Thanksgiving holiday spirit, the first poster for Deadpool 2 has arrived, and it’s fully prepped for turkey time.
Deadpool might need to watch his back. IT, the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s horror epic, just broke one of the R-rated box office champ’s records — and is primed to break a couple more before the end of the weekend. It’s doubtful that Pennywise will come close to overtaking the Merc With a Mouth’s massive box office haul, but it’s quite a win for the new horror film from Andy Muschietti, which already has a sequel in the works for 2019.
When Deadpool returns to theater screens next year, he’s going to have a major upgrade in supporting casts. In his first film, the lack of co-starring mutants was basically a recurring gag; Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth shared screentime with Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and that was basically it. But Deadpool 2 will up the X-Men star power in a major way. ’Pool will meet Cable, played by Josh Brolin, as well as Domino, played by Zazie Beetz.
