On the heels of EA's new subscription-based Access program unveiled yesterday, Game Informer asked Sony about it, since it's an Xbox One exclusive, and it turns out the House of PlayStation isn't convinced that it's good for the consumer.

A Sony representative told GI the service "does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect," citing the similar PlayStation Plus program already in place. "We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer," the rep continues.

For those unfamiliar, EA Access is a service very similar to PlayStation Plus where players can play $4.99 a month or an annual fee of $29.99 to gain entry to a vault of free games, a 10 percent discount on digital EA purchases, and early access to new EA titles starting with Madden NFL 15. FIFA 14, Madden 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4 are the first four Vault titles made free to download.

We have to agree with Sony here. The Games with Gold program is not nearly as popular or beneficial as PlayStation Plus, so EA Access is much better suited for the Xbox One than it is PS4. In short, Sony doesn't need EA's help and Xbox does, though the door is open for Sony to re-consider should Access perform well. We'll have to wait and see.
