Slipknot’s Corey Taylor Thinking About 2021 Solo Album
Over the years, Corey Taylor has played a lot of solo shows dubbed 'Corey Taylor and Friends.' He's only released one solo song, however, ("X-M@$"), and is now giving "serious thought" to recording a proper solo album.
In an interview with Sirius XM's Eddie Trunk, the Slipknot and Stone Sour singer revealed the potential for a solo project. "I'm actually giving serious thought to doing a solo album and a solo run," he told Trunk, clarifying the project isn't an immediate focusing, stating, "Obviously, it's not gonna happen for a while."
Splitting his time between fronting Slipknot and Stone Sour and being an author, the idea of pursuing music as a solo artist hadn't been weighing heavily on Taylor. "Honestly, it's something that I didn't even consider for a long time until people just kept beating me up about it, asking me when I was gonna do it," offered the singer.
The persistence of his friends is what he needed as he continued, "And the more they kept asking, the more I just kept thinking about it, the more I was just, like, 'You know what? If I don't do it now, I'm never gonna do it.'"
With Slipknot just having released We Are Not Your Kind, Taylor is not losing focus on his priorities, pushing the potential solo effort out at least a couple years. "So, yeah, probably 2021," he forecasted. "I'm actually putting a band together. I've already told the guys in Stone Sour and Slipknot that I'm doing it, just out of respect. And, yeah, I'm gonna start working on a solo album."
Careful not to divulge too much information, he told Trunk, "That's all I'll give you for now. But, yeah, that's the plan as of right now."
Meanwhile, Slipknot are in the midst of their Knotfest Roadshow tour and just booked a European tour with Behemoth for next year. For Knotfest tickets, head here.
