Grand Junction's heritage runs deep. You can do your Christmas shopping at these stores your grandparents mostly shopped.

The video features Robert Grant photos of downtown Grand Junction businesses from the 40s and 50s. No doubt you’ll see several business names you don’t recognize. At the same time, though, you’ll probably see a few you do recognize, albeit their locations don’t look familiar.

Personally, I’m currently a customer at five of the businesses shown in the video:

  • Roper Music
  • Western Slope Auto
  • City Market
  • JC Penney
  • The Daily Sentinel

Of the five businesses I recognize, none are still located downtown. Roper Music only recently moved to North Avenue, while Western Slope Auto moved from Main Street to the west end of town decades ago.

Check out the video. Were you a customer of these businesses? Did you shop JC Penney while it was still downtown? How many still exist?
