Colorado Springspolice officers reported nearly being struck by gunfire while looking for a man who police said was firing off rounds into rock formations in Garden of the Gods early Monday morning. Officers first responded to the area around 3 a.m. to investigate a report of shots fired. Police left the park when they couldn't find anyone firing shots. Nearly an hour later, officers were dispatched again to the area on multiple reports of gunfire. This time, officers said they heard 100-150 rounds being fired from the south side of the park.

Police found 31-year-old Brandon Bougades shooting at two rock formations with a semi-automatic handgun and a pump-action shotgun. Officers searched the park and found about 150 shell casings and said they were nearly struck by several rounds. Bougades was taken into custody without incident and cited on suspicion of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, then released. There were no reports of injuries or damages, police said.
