Spring may be here but the flu's not finished.

The flu season usually winds down this time of year but the US Centers for Disease Control confirms a second wave of the virus is hitting the country and Colcorado.

I'm no doctor, but this is alarming. The "A-strain" of the virus, which had dominated previous reports, has taken a step back while the "B virus" appears to be gaining momentum. This second wave of influenza B wasn't unexpected. CDC spokeswoman Kristen Nordlund says, “We often see a wave of influenza B during seasons when influenza A H3N2 was the predominant virus earlier in the season. Unfortunately, we don’t know what the influenza B wave will look like.”

The CDC say too that while this new strain is active that parents should remain vigilant especially with your younger children.

Finally, it's not too late for a flu shot. The CDC recommends flu shots for anyone unvaccinated while strains continue to circulate. It's possible too for people who’ve been sick with one strain of the flu to get a different strain in the same season. Getting sick with the flu, not once but twice, no thank you, please!
